Flyfishing Abroad

 Fishtec

If your going to fish abroad, then have a go you will enjoy it.

However be aware, never believe everything that is written in the brochures that you send away for about the fishing in certain countries.  It can be very hard to obtain a fishing permit and information from the locals on the right place to fish and the best methods to fish can really try the patience of a saint.  Also the brochures never ever tell you about the pit falls and dangers which face you fishing in certain areas, from wild brown bears in Canada sharing the same fishing spot as you or the mosquitoes that have their knives and forks out ready to devour you any chance they get.

If you are serious about going fishing then book with a reputable fishing company or book an experienced fishing guide who knows the areas well and will help you to both enjoy your days fishing and catch some cracking fish.

Below are some really good companies for you, if you are thinking of having that fishing trip of a lifetime. You don’t have to use them, but remember to follow the following points and they will help you:-

1. Look up the location you want to go too
2. Make up a check list of the things you will need to take
3. Check out the local fishing companies and guides on line
4. If you know someone that’s been before ask them all about it, but remember even though they might have had a bad

experience, it doesn’t mean you will
5. Go on line and check out each company and see if they cover all the points you have made or contact them if you have

any doubts, they will be more than happy to answer your questions.

So once you have decided on your location, the company or guide you will be using for that lifetime experience then enjoy yourself as it may never come around again.

Bulgaria

Lake Iskar. At 16km long this is one of the biggest man made lakes in Bulgaria. For those who prefer to fish in colder waters, guided expeditions to fish in the lakes high up in the mountains should be made by arrangement with your local tour guide.

Within Bulgarian lakes and rivers there is excellent trout fishing, along with pike, carp and bream. Most of these fish are over 2kg and can be eaten or returned to the water. There are lots of other small fish species that can be caught for fun or food.

Fishing during the month of May is forbidden for all sweet water fish due to spawning. Salmon fishing in mountains from October to December is also banned. Harpooning in sweet water is not allowed in Bulgaria.

Fishes in Bulgaria:
1. Sweet/fresh water (Siluroides) – (Alburnus alburnus), grey mullet, chub (Mugil cephalos), carp (Cyprinos carpio), sheat-fish (Silarus glanus), (Perca fluviatilis), pike (Esox lucius), pike-perch (Stizostedion lucioperca), (Salmo trutta fario), (Salmo gairdneri irideus), (Salvelinus fontinalis). Most of these fishes are over 2kg and can be prepared and eaten or returned in water depends on wish. There are lots of small kind fishes for fun and food. Harpooning in sweet water is forbidden in Bulgaria. Forbidden time for fishing concerning spawning, month May for all sweet water fishes, only for (Salmo) in mountains Oct. to Dec. For anglers Black Sea (salt water) is allowed the whole year.

 Spain

There is a very nice choice of fly fishing opportunities in Spain. The best rivers are found in the mountains like the Pyrenees of Navarre, Aragon & Catalonia, or the "Picos de Europa" in Asturias. We can also help for the famous wine region of La Rioja. These areas are very wild with a rich fauna and wonderful rivers. Migratory seatrout and salmon are present at some of them. Some of the places are quite secluded but the food is gorgeous and although it is the coolest part of this country, people are adorably warm. Visit the site below for further information

Germany

The Black Forest is one of the most scenic regions of Germany. One of the favorite destinations for a perfect nature break. The region is located near the French border roughly at the level of Strasbourg. The place we recommend needs around 1 hour drive from Strasbourg. If trout & grayling fishing on the local rivers is really pleasant, the spot is also recommended to anglers willing to truly offer a wonderful holiday to their wives. We operate this region from a luxury hotel featuring 3 gourmet restaurants -and the world's most impressive breakfast and high tea buffet- spas and a sea water swimming pool with waves, beauty, health and relaxing programs, guided forest walks and many other activities or sports such as golf, tennis, or horse riding.

Africa

Offshore Flyfishing

This is a very challenging aspect of flyfishing and if you are looking for a serious fish this is the place to go. We fish areas like False Bay , Cape Point and Robben Island for Yellowtail and the very aggressive Cape Snoek. The brave venture further offshore to fish the warm currents that sweep past our coast in search of the mighty Yellowfin and Longfin Tuna . A common problem that we encounter out in the deep is that the fish are simply too big to handle on fly , but if it is a record fish that you are looking for come and try these tacklebusters for size. For the smaller fish a ten to twelve weight rod combined with a reel that holds 200m of backing will do.

The Tuna however deserves a lot more respect and nothing less than a fourteen weight combined with a really good reel that holds at least 600m of backing will do. Seasons vary from one year to the next , but as a rule all the above species are caught in summer . Cape Snoek however peak during the cold winter months.
