South West Salmon, Brown & Sea Trout


River Avon: - Experience the very best in brown trout and winter grayling fishing on these lovely crystal clear chalk stream stretches of the River Avon.

River Axe: - The River Axe is a good little trout and sea trout river. It is a short river about 16 miles long with several smaller rivers and feeder streams joining it.   There are opportunities for guests to access excellent water in different parts of the river with rods costing from £7- £20 per day permits can be obtained from the following locations:

River Camel: -  has sea trout and brown trout. The river rises on Bodmin Moor and flows 25 miles to the sea at Padstow. The wild moorland scenery has ensured that the river is pollution free and that large runs of sea trout and salmon survive

River Dart: - The River Dart has excellent fishing. Contact the Duchy of Cornwall, Tel: 01822 890205. Licences for fishing in the River Dart and tributaries are available all year round.

 


River Exe: - Top quality salmon fishing from £10 to £20 a day. Top quality wild brown trout fishing for £10 a day. Some of the best salmon fly-fishing water in the South West is now available to everyone.

River Fal: - The River Fal is approximately 29km in length. Starting at Goss Moor, the river passes through farmland and an intensive china clay mining area before emptying into the Fal estuary populations of brown trout, sea-trout and salmon, the latter featuring more in the Tresillian than the Fal.

 


River Fowey: - The River Fowey, 2 miles at Lanhydrock, for salmon and sea trout from 1st April to 30th Sept.

River Looe: - The East and West Looe Rivers have a salmon and trout season from 1st April to 15 December.

River Lyn: - The fishing on the East Lyn starts at Watersmeet House and includes four of the river's famous salmon pools namely, Lower Stag pool, Horners Pool, Dumbledon pool and Crook pool. In addition, there are numerous smaller pools and runs which all hold fish given the right water conditions.

River Lynher: - The River Lynher rises on the north-eastern fringes of Bodmin Moor and meanders for some 22 miles.  It is very much a fisherman's river with salmon, sea trout and brown trout - though the salmon fishing has deteriorated in recent years


River Piddle: - The Piddle is one of the most natural of all the chalkstreams. Weaving its way through the beautiful and secluded parts of Dorset, the Piddle is not stocked and is managed with the lightest of hands.

River Plym: - The river Plym is a great river for brown trout, sea trout and salmon fishing.  There are quite a few beats on the river operated and maintained by the local fishing clubs.

River Tamar: - Brown trout, grayling, and the occasional dace can be taken by fly on the Upper Tamar between Kingford Mill and Bridgerule. Day tickets from Bude Sports and Bude Angling Supplies,

River Taw: - The River Taw is full of wonderful deep pools and ripples which make excellent fishing for brown trout, salmon and sea trout.  The season starts on the 1st March for salmon and the 15th March for trout. Spinning is allowed in March only.

River Teign: - The extensive fishing on the River Teign controlled by the Upper Teign Fishing Association offers the novice and experienced angler the opportunity to catch wild brown trout within the Dartmoor National Park.

North East


River Aln: - The River Aln has some really good fly fishing while the Coquet to the south is stocked by the Northumberland Anglers Association

River Coquet: - The River Coquet is famous for its autumn run of salmon and sea trout.

Every year huge sea trout up to 20lbs are caught on this lovely Northumbrian river, there are also good sized brown trout. The upper reaches of the river offer classic fly-fishing within the splendour of the Cheviot Hills.

 

The season for salmon runs from 1st February to 31st October. To fish you will need your rod license or alternatively purchase one from Rothbury's Post Office for approx. £20, no rod license is needed for children under the age of 12 years. Spin or fly fishing only.

 


River Esk (Yorkshire): - The Yorkshire Esk, a beautiful river that while small by comparison to the likes of Tyne, Tees and Wear, offers unique challenges and opportunities that mesmerise salmon, trout and sea trout anglers alike.

River Tyne: - The Tyne is rightly regarded as the best Salmon River in England and Wales. Environment Agency catch returns and fish counts from the station at Riding Mill endorse this, with fish entering the river system every month of the year

North West


River Calder: - This stretch of water has hardly been fished before now. Stocked with Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Chubb, Gudgeon, Roach, Rudd, Barbel. Access is through the fisheries. It is private, cars are parked at the back of the swim and there is no access other than through the farm. Tickets are £5.00 per day or £4.00 after

River Derwent: - The River Derwent, some 50 odd miles in length, is the longest river in Derbyshire. Apart from it's short passage through the City of Derby it is a completely rural river, finally joining the River Trent just south of Derby. The Derwent's source is at Swain's Greave on Howden Moor on the flank of Bleaklow Hill.

River Duddon: - Great river for salmon, sea trout and wild brownies, one of the best English rivers for salmon.

River Eden: - River Eden and the excellent location of Warwick Hall the beat is considered one of the most famous on the river. The fishing at Warwick Hall is divided into two beats, each providing fishing for three rods.

 

The pools are generally easy to fish and contain some of the best fly water on the Eden, together with deeper pools suitable for spinning. Some of the water is fly only at certain heights.

In recent years the summer and autumn have provided the most prolific fishing, with the spring increasingly improving.

Midlands


River Severn: - Free Salmon fishing on the River Severn at Melverley - Environment Agency Fishery - fishing the River Severn left bank for 455mtrs on the river bend. 



River Wye: - 10 miles of superb dry fly fishing is available on the Haddon Estates on the River Wye and the River Lathkill - arguably the home of dry fly fishing.

Strictly limited to 12 rods per day.


Southern


River
Avon (Hants.):- The River Avon is a beautiful spot for fishing, and is famous for salmon and coarse fishing. Fishing permits are mandatory, but can be obtained locally.


River Itchen: - The River Itchen at The Weirs in Winchester is owned by the City Council who permit public fishing. Public fishing for brown trout is allowed on the Itchen Navigation immediately south of Winchester, from the left bank between Blackbridge and Saint Catherine’s Lock.

River Test: - Brown trout, rainbow trout, grayling, sea trout and salmon can all be fished on the River Test. The trout season runs from mid April to early October with Grayling in season from mid June to mid March; meaning that the river is open for fly fishing for 11 months of the year.

 

Permits can be obtained from various post offices, tackle shops and hotels the full length of the river.
