Would you like your companies fly fishing products critically reviewed so that your potential customers can obtain an independent and unbiased report on your products.  Then please contact me using the contact page.

I would be happy to review anything from flies to luggage, reels to rods and clothing to electric motors.

Anything from a small nymph too a large item would be given a complete and thorough work out which would include:-  quality, looks and usage.  So be warned I can be slightly rough with the items to see them at their best and worst.   A full report would be published on this page for your customers whether they are buyers from the general public or major distributors.

Hi Folks

This month’s tackle review is on the Stillwater 44lb Thrust Electric Motor designed and manufactured by the Glasgow Angling Centre.

Stillwater Electric Outboard Motor

Product Description

44lb Thrust

Bracket: reinforced nylon

5-sp forward & 2-sp reverse

6 inch telescoping handle, and control type: twist tiller

Durable all aluminium head

Spare propeller, Shear pins, locking nut, locking keys

The electric motor was used along with an 85amp battery which when fully charged gave me on average 2.5 hours continual usage.  For more ease of use when fishing and trying to stay in the same fish catching spot I had attached a 30” extension handle which saved me from reaching too far over to operate the motor and not interfere with my fishing too much. However it is still a lovely piece of equipment to use without the extension handle especially if you are going to do some gillie work and just sitting at the back of the boat.

I had used the motor extensively on the Lake of Menteith, Linlithgow Loch and at Rutland Water on both leisure fishing days and competition days.

Like I have said previously I am not very light handed and love to put everything through their paces and I’m not very gently at times.

Attaching the shear pins and blade to the motor was as easy as pie and the instructions were simple to follow.

The motor’s boat attaching bracket was a cinch to use and manoeuvre into place on the boat before setting off for the day.  For such a small engine; the motor has some great speed on it and can manoeuvre quit easily either at speed or when trying to stay in the one spot.

To strip down the propeller and fittings for cleaning or replacing was slightly awkward especially when I had over tightened the locking nut (you would have thought I had used super glue to stick it on the way I was trying to get it back off); be very careful when using the locking nut as you can over tighten the thread and may case the threads to get cross threaded within the locking nut or to slightly bend the shearing pin; making it harder to get the pin out.

Despite the slight mishap when locking on the propeller for the first time; at only £144.99 this is great value and excellent quality for your money especially when unlike other models you receive the additional spare propeller and kit.

You can obtain the motor directly from the Glasgow Angling Centre http://www.fishingmegastore.com/
